Early Signs of Glaucoma

3 Early Signs of Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a serious disease that damages your eyesight. Glaucoma occurs when your optic nerve experiences significant pressure, resulting in visual impairment. Noticing the early warning signs of glaucoma will help you recognize the disease early so you can seek prompt treatment. See a doctor of optometry at Insight Eyecare & Eyewear in Chandler, AZ if you experience the following symptoms.

Nausea Accompanying Eye Pain

If you start to experience eye pain accompanied by nausea, this could be a sign of a rare form of glaucoma. Minor eye pain can signify various eye issues, but when nausea and vomiting follow, it means something serious is going on with your eyesight.

Red or Cloudy Eyes

It is easy for the eyes to become irritated and red. If you’ve been exposed to bacteria, had a long night, rubbed your eyes too hard, or simply get an eyelash stuck, redness will occur. The problem lies when that redness doesn’t go away and sticks around for days. Your eyes may become clouded as well. These are signs of glaucoma that need to be addressed quickly.

Halos Surrounding Lights

When you start to see circles, or halos, around light sources, this could indicate glaucoma. Don’t confuse this with a glare. A glare around a light that only widens the ball of light and gives it a faded-out appearance at the edges is a different occurrence. If you are seeing full circles of light disconnected from central light sources, consult a doctor of optometry.
